The Workforce Recruitment Program Event was a HUGE success!

National recruiter, Erni Moya, from the Workforce Recruitment Program was on campus on Friday, February 13 to interview students registered with the ODS and interested in employment and internship opportunities with the federal government.  Four HT students were interviewed as well as one student from Southwestern U, two students from Concordia, and another student from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.  At the end of the busy day, Ms. Moya was very impressed with the caliber of students who interviewed and enthusiastic about the placements she already had in mind for some.  She had never conducted interviews on an HBCU campus before and asked for materials about HT to take back to others in her department.  She wanted to make sure that Huston-Tillotson is included in all opportunities from now on.  The Office of Disability Services looks forward to making this an annual event!

Stephanie Jerdan participates in Austin National Disability Mentoring Day

Stephanie Jerdan, a third year student at Huston-Tillotson participated in the National Disability Mentoring Day in Austin on October 22, 2008.  Stephanie, a criminal justice major, spent her morning shadowing various people in the Austin Juvenile Court system.  She toured the facility including the lock up area, sat in on various family court cases to see the judicial system in action, and was able to ask professionals in the field questions about her area of interest.  This was a wonderful experience for Ms. Jerdan and equally beneficial for the professionals who mentored her.  They encouraged her to apply for a job with them after she earns her degree and graduates from Huston-Tillotson and spoke with her about internship possibilities while she is still a student.  Way to go, Stephanie!
